Asphalt Roof Repair
Also known as bitumen, asphalt flat roofs can either be smooth surfaced, or have a gravel coating on them to protect them from the weather.
More often than not, we’re dealing with Mastic Asphalt on Fife’s roofs – a thermoplastic compound which is heated to 210 °C (410 °F) and then spread in layers, ultimately forming a water resistant barrier that’s about 20mm thick.
As they get older, cracks and splits can start to appear, and it’s best to get these repaired as soon as you spot them because they’ll typically only get worse – leading to potential water damage in your home. Your local wildlife may also be responsible for damage, we’ve seen many holes in asphalt created by misguided seagulls.
Our method of repairing asphalt roofing depends on factors such as the age of the roof (asphalt has been used for roofing since the 19th century), and the extent of the damage. Of course, we’ll give you options where they are available, but often replacing the roof can be the most cost effective option long-term.
